Epic Games Lists First NFT Game On Its Store

Blankos Block Party, an NFT online game, launched today on the Epic Games Store, becoming the first Web3 game published on the popular PC gaming marketplace.

Last night, Epic Games – the company behind the hit game Fortnite, listed the first Web3 NFT game Blankos Block Party on its store. The release comes less than a year after Mythical Games closed its $150 million Series C round, raising the company’s valuation to $1.25 billion.

Blankos Block Party is a Free-to-Play game, co-developed by Mythical Games and Third Kind Games. The game is launched on the EOS.IO blockchain and has a bridge to the Ethereum network. Join the game, players will immerse into a colorful online world, inspired by vinyl toy culture. The in-game NFTs represent unique items that can be traded on the game’s marketplace.

Before Blankos Block Party, in June, Gala Games announced that it would bring Web3 to the Epic Games Store’s 194 million users, but the NFT GRIT game has not been officially released.

In response, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted:

“Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group,”

“Though Epic’s not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance,” He added.

The version of Blankos Block Party launched on the Epic Games Store is functionally identical to the version playable from the game’s own website. Both are available in what’s being billed as an “early access” state, with the full game launch set to launch on September 28 with additional content in tow.
