Devcon is the most important event of the Ethereum community, held continuously in the 8-year history of the world’s second-biggest cryptocurrency.
Devcon is the place where all members of the ETH community gather, from the leadership team, key developers of Ethereum Foundation, top projects in Ethereum ecosystem, to the usual crypto enthusiasts.
In 2022, Devcon 6 was held in Bogota (Colombia), attracting not only the Ethereum community but also the entire crypto industry because of its vibrant, impressive atmosphere and elaborate scale of the organizing committee. This is considered the most successful Devcon conference in history.
Devcon’s appeal is undeniable, especially as the Ethereum community is gradually expanding to a global scale.
By mid-2022, the Ethereum Foundation has begun to compile comments from the community on where to host the next Devcon event. After a long evaluation, on the evening of February 28, the Ethereum Foundation released the latest update on the time and location of Devcon 7.
First, instead of an annual event, the Devcon 7 organizer decided to move the event to 2024 to have more time to prepare and repeat the success of the previous event.
For the location, Ethereum picked Southeast Asia as Devcon 7’s destination. Choosing an area that has never been visited by Devcon will be an opportunity to connect the global Ethereum community, as well as increase diversity in the organization. Southeast Asia is also the place that has one of the highest cryptocurrency adoption in the world, with Vietnam and the Philippines ranked 1st and 2nd respectively according to Chainalysis statistics.
Ethereum team will reopen forum so that the community can vote on the most suitable Southeast Asian city for Devcon 7, with the registration deadline being March 15, 2023.
