Instagram to Start Testing NFTs This Week

Cryptory.net - Instagram will soon support NFTs from Ethereum, Polygon, Solana and Flow.

After Twitter, NFTs are now coming to Instagram. This news was first reported by CoinDesk on May 7, that the platform will soon support the Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, and Flow NFTs. In a video Monday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg further revealed that the company will begin testing non-fungible token (NFT) integrations this week.

“We are starting to build NFT not only in our metaverse and Reality Labs work, but also across our family of apps. We are going to bring similar functionality to Facebook soon,” Zuckerberg said in the video.

The company claims to be working on three-dimensional, augmented-reality NFTs with its Spark AR software, which will first be compatible with Instagram stories. With this pilot program, users will be able to prove ownership of their NFTs, display them on their accounts, and tag the creators who developed them by plugging in their wallets.

Unlike Twitter, Instagram will not charge users to upload and share NFTs. Initially, the microblogging site Twitter initially charged a fee for its hexagonal NFT profile images. This new decision of Meta will increase the cultural visibility of NFTs. Many artists are motivated to promote and sell their work on Instagram, a social platform with more than 1 billion active users per month.

According to a Twitter thread posted by a Meta representative, compatible third-party wallets will be MetaMask, Rainbow, and TrustWallet. Instagram will first support Ethereum-based NFTs; Polygon, Solana, and Flow will be supported later.
