Twitter’s Bluesky Releases First Code of Its Decentralized Social Network

Bluesky, an offshoot of Twitter, officially released the first code on May 5 as a confirmation it will not be "acquired" by Elon Musk.

First announced in late 2019 by Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, BlueSky then went independent in February after receiving $13 million worth of funding from Twitter.

In an announcement on May 5, Bluesky confirmed the release of its “Authenticated Data eXperiment” (ADX) protocol code. The process of development will be publicly shared by “releasing work before it’s complete,” but also giving the team “time to workshop new directions at early stages.”

At this stage, the ADX protocol will utilize “self-authenticating data” which is a model that enables operations on a network to be certified independently without a centralized host or authority. This function allows users to have control over their data and can move it from platform to platform without permission.

The network is now available to experiment, but note in mind that everything is still very basic, and will need more updates before it officially goes into operation.

In a tweet posted on April 25, Bluesky stated that despite being funded by Twitter, the social media giant does not hold any controlling stake in Bluesky.

Bluesky, where Jack Dorsey is still serving as a leading member, will continue its mission and the recent Elon Musk acquisition of Twitter will not affect the company’s future plans.
