Google Pushes Deeper Into Crypto as It Hires PayPal Vet

Cryptory.net - Today, Google appointed Arnold Goldberg, a former senior manager at payments company PayPal, to lead the group's payments division.

Google technology corporation has just made a move that many consider to be paving the way to accept cryptocurrency payments.

On January 20, Google announced that it had appointed Mr. Arnold Goldberg, a former senior manager at payment company PayPal, to lead the group’s payments division. PayPal is an American payment giant that accepts 4 major cryptocurrencies including BTC, ETH, LTC and BCH.

Google’s president of commerce Bill Ready said the move is part of the group’s strategy to further expand its payments business, to include cryptocurrencies.

Mr. Ready revealed that so far, Google has only established partnerships with a handful of crypto companies, including Coinbase, Gemini and Bakkt processor BitPay, but it is limited to users being able to connect their crypto debit card to Google Pay. Google has yet to officially support cryptocurrency or launch any kind of crypto-related service.

However, that could soon change. Mr. Ready hinted that Google is discussing opening more deals like the one above. He said: “Cryptocurrency is an area that we are extremely interested in. If the demand from users and businesses is big enough, we are ready to meet them”.

In addition, Google has recently relaxed the company’s policy with cryptocurrencies. In August 2021, Google allowed cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets to run ads, but still said no to sensitive aspects such as token sales.
