Group of Solana Projects Collaborate to Launch Cross-chain Messaging Standard

Cryptory.net - A group of prominent Solana-based projects is working together to push Web3 messaging service by building a messaging standard for crypto projects.

Developed by more than 27 projects on Solana, “Open Chat Alliance” was announced on August 23 with the aim of pushing Web3 messaging service. Most notable can be mentioned are messaging platform Notifi Network, Bonfida, and NFT-powered social media platform Only1.

Their plan is to create a transparent and interoperable standard for handling crypto-based messages that can rapidly grow across the industry through open-source standards like xMS. According to the announcement, xMS is a cross-chain messaging service which is built to be interoperable and easily accessible with both on/off-chain capabilities. The project’s community will gain exclusive access to xMS during the first alpha phase.

The alliance also said it will form a communication standard that projects on different blockchains can use and interact easily despite the technological differences between those blockchains. Open Chat Alliance standard will make it easy for Solana users to send a message to someone on Ethereum, for example.

This is definitely a unique idea but also challenging as Open Chat Alliance is related to cross chain that recently has been the target of many attacks with huge losses. Among the biggest hacks in 2022, there were up to 4 attacks related to cross chain including Ronin ($662 million), Wormhole ($325 million), Horizon ($100 million) and Nomad (US$325 million). $176 million).

However, Notifi Network CEO Paul Kim said the development team considered the risk of hacking before starting the project and that’s why Open Chat Alliance’s framework is solely for messaging.

“There’s multiple different features as a user you can subscribe to and, depending on which feature you use, different security protocols,” said Kim. “But at the end of the day, we’re not really interacting just yet with any of the transactions beyond just communication.”
