Sam Altman To Return as CEO of OpenAI

Cryptory.net - Less than 5 days after Sam Altman was fired as CEO, Sam Altman and OpenAI have reached an agreement for the father of ChatGPT to return to this position.

According to Reuters, OpenAI said it has reached an agreement for Sam Altman to return as CEO. A new initial board was also established, including Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summer and Adam D’Angelo.

“We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this”, OpenAI announced on Twitter X.

OpenAI co-founder, former president Greg Brockman, retweeted OpenAi’s post and said: “Amazing progress made today. We will come back stronger & more unified than ever.”

Sam Altman also immediately posted a tweet confirming his return as CEO of OpenAi and expressed his hope to build a partnership with Microsoft: “I love OpenAI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join msft on Sun evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. With the new board and with Satya’s support (Microsoft CEO), I’m looking forward to returning to OpenAI, and building on our strong partnership with Microsoft.”

Last week, OpenAI’s board of directors suddenly announced that Sam Altman was no longer the CEO of OpenAI. Greg Brockman and three key scientists then also said that they would leave OpenAI.

Just hours after, Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest investor, said that Altman, Brockman and others would be joining the company to start a new advanced artificial intelligence lab. More than 740 employees out of a total of 770 people working at OpenAI signed a letter asking the company’s board of directors to resign and reinstate Sam Altman’s position, otherwise they would walk out and follow Altman to Microsoft.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed confidence in OpenAI, saying that changes in the company’s leadership will help management activities become more stable, transparent and effective.
