Coca-Cola Makes a Virtual Drink for Gamers in the Metaverse

The American beverage giant has reached the virtual world with its new product.

This is the second featured offering called Zero Sugar Byte from Project Coca-Cola Creations, an experimental innovation platform. The new flavor is set to be released in May. While the first product focused on Generation Z customers, this time, the target audience is gamers with a supposedly pixel-flavored twist on the popular drink.

Company affiliate Oana Vlad said: “We wanted to create an innovative taste of pixel fun, rooted in the experiences that gaming makes possible. Just as pixels power digital communication, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte brings people together to share moments of true magic.”

The exact way you can handle this remains unveiled, but it will first be available in a world similar to the Metaverse of the Fortnite video game. Players will taste the virtual drink through promotional mini-games and a map built around its pixel-themed design.

However, the map wasn’t made in partnership with Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, but by gaming organization PWR. Featuring notable Fortnite content creators such as Lachlan and Loserfruit, PWR has created a variety of popular maps within Fortnite Creative.

Till now, there isn’t much information about Zero Sugar Bytes except for the describe it as “transcending the digital and physical worlds”. This new flavor will appear in US stores in physical form on May 2. No word yet on a UK launch.

Coca-Cola isn’t the first company to jump on the Metaverse bandwagon. As interest is growing, several brands are already dabbling in the field, with fascinating outcomes. While investors debate the notion of the Metaverse, many businesses see its potential.

Last month, Heineken hosted an event in the Metaverse where it presented the opportunity to “drink” the brand’s first virtual beer.

Fashion brands have also penetrated the field. Recently, the first Metaverse Fashion Week saw virtual appearances from high-end fashions such as Estée Lauder, Tommy Hilfiger, and Dolce & Gabbana.
