Meta Partners With Polygon to Build an NFT Platform for Its Social Channels

According to CEO Ryan Wyatt's announcement on Twitter, Polygon is currently working with Meta to create the NFT platform for Instagram and Facebook.

This partnership will introduce Polygon’s blockchain ecosystem to Meta’s 2.9 billion users. Wyatt said that Meta chose Polygon for its Carbon-neutral network, a preferred choice of developers.

Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on May 9 that the company is conducting an NFT test on Instagram and will soon add that function to Facebook

The official Twitter account of Meta Newsroom also confirmed the news:

A post on the Instagram Creators confirmed that “there will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on Instagram” and revealed more details regarding how NFTs will be displayed.

By tapping Polygon, Meta is looking to increase adoption among crypto newcomers from Meta’s customer base. Minimal fees and carbon-neutral emissions are potential elements that will attract newcomers to the space.

In addition, with a large community that attracts over 250 million users per month and generates millions of dollars in revenue, Meta will utilize these available resources to expand its product portfolio. Going forward, the tech giant may allow NFT sales on its social channels.
