This is the latest record-breaking NFT sale of CryptoPunk, also the fifth biggest transaction in the collection’s history. According to data from analytics platform Rarity.Tools, CryptoPunk #4464 is the 32nd-rarest punk in the 10,000 edition collection.
Based on CryptoPunk #4464’s estimated market value, it is probably a fair deal for both seller and buyer. Because according to NFT DeepNFTValue’s price estimator, #4464 had a collectible valued at 2595 ETH (equivalent to $2.7 million) at the time of sale, only a 4% difference from NFT’s final price. The buyer, nicknamed NFT whale “zoomc”, currently owns a collection including 24 NFT CryptoPunks and 113 Meebits.
What’s more, CryptoPunk #4464 was not the only NFT that caught the eye in the collection on the evening of July 12. CryptoPunk #9280, another special edition, received a bid of $2.6 million in two hours after CryptoPunk #4464’s bid was accepted. However, the deal for CryptoPunk #9280 has not been accepted at the time of writing.
Up to now, the most expensive CryptoPunk NFT ever sold was CryptoPunk #9998 for $532 million in October 2021. However, this deal was controversial from the community because of the transparency of the transaction, so CryptoPunk #5822, which was sold for 8,000 ETH (23.7 million USD), became the highest valued NFT in CryptoPunk history.
The Cryptopunks has become one of the most popular NFT projects in the crypto market, hitting the $1 billion revenue milestone just behind Axie Infinity. In late August 2021, payment giant Visa suddenly spent 150,000 USD to buy CryptoPunk NFT and then, 90 NFT Punks were sold in 1 hour after the news was released.
Despite the market downturn, CryptoPunks is still attracting the attention of investors. The reason for the revival of CryptoPunk probably comes from Yuga Labs – the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Apecoin (APE) collection. In March 2022, Yuga Labs acquired both CryptoPunks and Meebits from Larva Labs.
